Track width change? FAQ #7

I often get asked questions about the track width change with our various IFS suspension lifts.  This would only include the lifts that use the replacement steering knuckles.  A common misconception is to measure the CV spacer to determine the track width change that a lift creates, but this method is not always accurate.  There are other factors like knuckle thickness and control arm angle change that are considered.  Also, not all suspension companies reproduce OE CV shaft engagement.  To make it easy I have included a list of our kits and the associated track width change.  Keep in mind that the overall difference in stance is very dependent on your wheel and tire selection.

At the time this chart was published (2010) we didn’t have specs on the later model trucks. For your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 our 2″/3.5″ lift kits have no track width change, the 4.5″/6.5″ IFS lift kits increase front track width 1-5/8″ per side.

Hi Greg, if lifting your talking about a 4.5 ” or 6.5″ lift for a later model GM1500 vehicle then yes, a 1-5/8″ rear wheel spacer will even out the track width front to back. Wheel spacers aren’t a requirement to lifting your truck, but some choose to do it for aesthetic reasons. If you choose to add them a more common size is 1-1/2″ wheel spacers (the 1/8″ isn’t noticeable)

Hi Even, with our 4.5″/6.5″ IFS suspension systems the vehicle’s front track width is increased by 1-5/8″. While its not required to install rear wheel spacers, some customers choose to install 1-1/2″ wheel spacers in the rear to even out the track width front-to-rear
